ManagedComp, Boston, MA

Nation’s leading managed care workers’ compensation administrator with over $200 million in premiums under management. Originally a subsidiary of Tufts' Health, then spun out as stand alone entity that partnered with insurance companies to provide marketing and workers’ comp administrative services.

Directed all operations and financial activities, with six senior management reports overseeing finance, marketing, field operations, underwriting, human resources, and administration.

  • Started up and led the organization through a decade of 20%-compounded growth, posting the best track record in the industry.
  • Built a 450-person organization with 13 service offices serving 6000 clients.
  • Expanded company from single market provider to a decentralized organization, capable of delivering service to employers in 44 states.

A leading HMO and managed care company.
Senior Vice President, Marketing and Corporate Development

Directed all marketing, customer service and new venture activity.

  • Moved the organization from a burn rate that would have bankrupted the company, to profitability in one year. Built annual volume from $2 million to over $500 million.
  • Instituted marketing strategies that grew the brand from ninth to third market share position, achieving volume and profit targets in eight of the nine years.
  • Created diversification strategy and led product development that moved the organization from a one product platform to multiple products serving different market segments.
  • Started two new companies: The Total Health Plan, a managed care/indemnity hybrid health plan and ManagedComp, a managed care workers’ compensation administrator. Each has annual premium volume that exceeds $200,000,000. 

Leisure Fabricators/Sailrider, Inc., Providence, RI

This plastics manufacturer offered a product line that ranged from sailboards and small boats to sub-contract plastic parts for the aircraft industry.
